What is BEAR (Alpha) and how does it work?
BEAR (Alpha) is a multiplayer survival horror experience on Roblox, created by Cheedaman and released on May 21, 2019. Despite the "Alpha" label, the game is a fully released mainline title — the name stuck as part of its iconic branding after five years.
Each round needs 2–10 players. One player is randomly selected as Bear based on Bear Chance; everyone else is a Survivor. Survivors solve puzzles across the map to reduce the round timer and win. Bear must hunt and eliminate all survivors before time runs out.
Between rounds, players spend Quidz in the shop on skins, kill effects, and gears. Map Voting lets the lobby pick from four map options before a random gamemode is selected.
Important: BEAR (Alpha) is separate from BEAR* (released 2020). Codes, gamemodes, and some features differ between the two games. This wiki covers BEAR (Alpha) only.

How to Play
Survivor and Bear strategies for beginners.
As a Survivor, your goal is to stay alive and complete puzzles. Each puzzle reduces the round timer and awards 5–10 Quidz. Sprint sparingly — stamina management wins rounds. Hide when you hear Bear approaching; collision damage is 25 HP per hit.
When Bear spots you, disturbing messages appear on screen: "He Is Here," "Run," "You Can't Hide," and scrambled text. At 0 HP you die and see "YOU DIED." Winning grants Quidz for puzzles completed plus a survival bonus.
As Bear, patrol high-traffic puzzle areas and cut off escape routes. Learn map layouts to predict survivor paths. Killing all survivors before the timer hits zero wins the round. You earn Quidz for eliminations.
Beginner tip: stick with teammates on puzzles — post-ISSA UPDATE, puzzle Quidz is awarded collaboratively to everyone who participates.
Gamemodes
Every gamemode in BEAR (Alpha) and shared modes.
After map voting ends, a gamemode is chosen at random. BEAR (Alpha) has exclusive modes like Freeze Tag, Cheese Rush, Crouton, and Survive, plus shared modes with the broader BEAR franchise.
| Gamemode | Availability | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | All BEAR games | One Bear hunts survivors who solve puzzles to reduce the timer. |
| Double Down | All BEAR games | Two players become Bear; survivors face doubled threat. |
| One Bounce | All BEAR games | Bear can only bounce once per chase — timing matters. |
| Infection | All BEAR games | Killed survivors turn into additional Bears. |
| Freeze Tag | BEAR (Alpha) exclusive | Bear freezes survivors on contact; teammates must unfreeze them. |
| Waves | BEAR* exclusive | Co-op wave survival with bosses on waves 4 and 8. |
| Escape | BEAR* exclusive | Survivors must complete most puzzles to escape the map. |
| Cheese Rush | BEAR (Alpha) exclusive | Race to collect cheese before time runs out. |
| Crouton | BEAR (Alpha) exclusive | Anchored zones unlock as the round progresses. |
| Survive | BEAR (Alpha) exclusive | Extended survival challenge on specific maps. |
Maps
All maps, voting, rotations, and Mastery rewards.
Maps are voted on during intermission — four options appear and the lobby picks the next location. Weekly Update rotations refresh the map pool every Monday, keeping a core set always available for quest access.
The Mastery system (ISSA UPDATE) tracks per-map XP. Complete puzzles (+2 XP), survive 45+ seconds (+1), win as Survivor (+4), or kill as Bear (+2, +3 on spotlighted maps). Reach 500 XP on a map to master it and unlock an exclusive skin.

Puzzles
Puzzle types and solving tips.
Puzzles are the core Survivor objective. Completing them reduces the round timer and earns Quidz. Since ISSA UPDATE, wire and color puzzles have improved visuals and audio cues — use these to solve faster.
Work together: multiple survivors can contribute to the same multi-step puzzle. Communication in private servers helps coordinate color sequences and wire routing.
| Puzzle | Tip |
|---|---|
| Wire Puzzle | Match wire colors to terminal ports; listen for connection sounds after ISSA UPDATE. |
| Color Code | Memorize the blinking sequence; codes now blink more visibly since ISSA UPDATE. |
| Memory TV | Watch the pattern, then repeat on all screens in order. |
| Pipe Altar | Rotate pipe segments to create an unbroken path from source to drain. |
| Altar Puzzles | Place correct items on altars; check map-specific guides for item locations. |
| Multi-Step Puzzles | Complete sub-tasks in sequence; progress is shared among nearby survivors. |
Items & Shop
Skins, kill effects, gears, and the Quidz Shop.
The Quidz Shop in the lobby sells cosmetics purchasable with Quidz. Categories include Bear skins, Survivor skins, kill effects, and gears. Some items cost over 1,000 Quidz — weekend 1.5x bonuses and efficient puzzle farming help afford them.
If you own a gear in-game, you automatically receive it on join. Deluxe UI theme (ISSA UPDATE) displays enhanced "YOU ARE:" role cards and Deluxe skin variants.
Notable shop items include H.O.B. (2,222 Quidz) and event-limited skins from seasonal updates like Weekly Updates (Pirates, Drone, Space themes).
Quidz
How to earn and spend the in-game currency.
Quidz is the primary currency in BEAR (Alpha), introduced in the JULY-19 build. Spend it in the Quidz Shop on cosmetics. Earn it through gameplay — puzzles, round wins, Bear kills, the lobby Obby, and promo codes when available.
Efficient farming: play during weekend 1.5x bonuses, focus on puzzle-heavy maps, and complete the Obby For Quidz! in the lobby between rounds. Stack with Double Quidz gamepass if owned.
Spicy Servers previously granted 50% bonus Quidz but were removed in ISSA UPDATE. Older guides referencing Spicy Servers are outdated.
| Source | Reward |
|---|---|
| Complete puzzles | 5-10 Quidz per puzzle |
| Win as Survivor | Bonus for surviving the round |
| Kill survivors as Bear | Per elimination |
| Obby For Quidz! | 5-10 Quidz in lobby |
| Weekend bonus | 1.5x Quidz (ISSA UPDATE) |
| Promo codes | 1-800 Quidz when active |
